Having a website that has high search engine ranking, has many advantages. Although learning seo can be a little mind blowing, did you know that the simplest seo mistakes can ruin your chances of search engine ranking.
1. Targeting the wrong keywords
Keyword research is the starting point for your seo campaign. Get this wrong and it is over before you have begun. Make sure the keywords you target are used by searchers and are relevant to your niche.
2. Forgetting to use title tags
Many beginners often forget to use title tags. They are important and tell search engines and visitors what your pages are about. Make sure you use different title tags for each page.
3. Too much flash
Googles spiders cannot read flash when they crawl your site. If you really want to use flash, make sure you also include the html mark-up.
4. Back link spamming
This is something even the best webmasters are failing to grasp. Link farms are not a good thing with Google. You will get much further by getting high quality one way links from website with high pr.
5. Overdoing the keywords
Your content must make sense. If you try and over do the keywords you will get penalized by Google quickly. What you write must flow.
6. Keyword density too high. Keep it below 5%
7. Duplicate content. If you use content that has been used elsewhere, you will get your website sand boxed by Google. Search engines love fresh content.
8. Poor navigation
Your website must contain no broken links and have good navigation. Both visitors and search engine bots need to get around your website.
9. Using images for headers
Headers are the first thing Google bots see. Take advantage of this and use your keywords in the h1 and h2 headers.
10. Unreliable hosting. I have often made the mistake of using cheap hosting. I was not keen on changing but boy did it make a difference when I did. Outages and servers going down will annoy your visitors and confuse Google bots. This will stop you getting high search engine ranking.
